David Chappell is the Head of Technology for Gray Dawes Group, one of the UK’s fastest growing, independent Travel Management Companys (TMCs). Joining the business in early 2014, David has been the driving force behind a reimagining of the software architecture of the Gray Dawes Group. Moving away from multiple points of definition to a seamless, connected, aggregated environment has allowed Gray Dawes to achieve great improvements in efficiency and product content access. As the designer behind Gray Dawes’ proprietary software, David has pushed Gray Dawes to explore the technical boundaries of the corporate travel industry, achieving incremental improvement on all fronts. These in-house developed softwares leverage numerous blended API & SDK technologies, in addition to using SQL databasing and HTML5 enabled environments to present results to the front end that are relevant to the specific traveller. His knowledge of the travel industry is founded in doing. Originally a travel sales consultant for over a decade, his experience at the front line of travel shaped his vision of future systems, both from a consultant and from a customer’s point of view. Hugely passionate about technology and a total self-confessed data dork, David can often be found happily wading knee-deep in data, hunting for the Lesser-Spotted Data-Discrepancy. A lateral thinker, David lives to design software where rekey is anathema and data breaks between environments are eliminated. Outside of the industry and, in acknowledgement that not everything digital is better, David is a keen collector of vinyl records, and holds a Black Belt in Wado Ryu Karate-do.
